Veiled Envy

Addendum

For context, this work was heavily inspired by poet and painter, William Blake. In Blake's poem : "A Poison Tree", he established his central metaphor as the tree being equivalent to the speaker's negative impulses or "wrath". He links the themes together whilst maintaining a rigid stance on the matter from which the reader can interpret.

As for my writing, I also took on the predicament of balancing a central metaphor, brewing a concoction of words, and portraying a true sense of longing to successfully write an intriguing imitation. Specifically, the overarching theme in this case, is envy as a knife. I find it suiting because, to me, envy is, lightly put, an abstract concept of hatred and longing, both charming and dangerous, subtle and serene, akin to that of unforgiving steel.
